History

History of the Timberwolves

Timberwolves Basketball Club was established by parents from the Lloyd Street Primary School in East Malvern and began playing in the expanded Waverley Basketball Association competition in 1989.

Since then, membership has expanded to cover all of the areas surrounding the Waverley Basketball Association and many of the Timberwolves players have gone on to play in the adult competitions, semi-pro leagues, whilst  others have gained places at colleges in the US.

Many of the players have also contributed back to the competition by taking on coaching roles or undertaking training to become referees. Many of the referees you see each week at the stadium are Timberwolves! Ashley Stewart, one of our ex-players and  coaches now works for the AFL in Sydney, having previously worked for Basketball Victoria.

Coaching Directors

A lot of the succes comes from the coaching staff who volunteer their time with the club, and these people often need a helping hand which is provided by our Coaching director. Past incumbents include Paul Stirton, Stuart Neville and Kevin Benn, who have gone on to coach at Representative level. Paul also successfully coached in the the BigV program.
